Equal tax treatment is essential to unlocking the full potential of the Pan-European Personal Pension Product (PEPP).
As part of the ongoing revision of Regulation (EU) 2019/1238, the Pan-European Personal Pension Providers Association (PEPPPA) has published its position paper calling for a level playing field between PEPP and comparable national pension products.
PEPPPA strongly recommends that the revised Regulation include a binding principle ensuring that PEPP receives tax treatment and other pension incentives that are no less favourable than those available to comparable personal or occupational pension products.
The paper highlights three key priorities:
- Fair Competition: Ensure PEPP can compete on equal terms with national pension products.
- Respect for National Tax Sovereignty: Promote equal treatment without requiring EU-wide tax harmonisation.
- Strengthening Europe’s Savings and Investments Union: Encourage long-term retirement savings, cross-border portability and greater consumer choice.
PEPPPA believes that fair and consistent pension incentives are fundamental to making PEPP a viable, accessible and attractive retirement savings solution for European citizens.
